Robert Mapplethorpe Work Diary

Evaluation
My photography session on Robert Mapplethorpe was very successful and I enjoyed it very much. I really loved the fact that we finally got to photograph faces in a professional traditional portrait style. I loved the style in which Robert Mapplethorpe took photos and really enjoyed taking photos in his style. Because I was interested in this style and this brief I found this topic relatively easy. I did find it challenging because I had to keep my eye on the traditional portraiture conventions such as filling the frame and ensuring I did make the eyes the centre of the photograph. I really loved focusing on Robert Mapplethorpe as an artist/photographer and actually getting to take photographs in his style as I think it is extremely important to follow the history of other photographers. We shot Robert Mapplethorpe in the studio and on location however I definitely enjoyed the studio shoots much more because they are the type of photography I am the most interested in. Here are some of my favourite shots from this shoot…

Progression
If I could progress with Robert Mapplethorpe I definitely would, I adore his style of portraiture and would definitely like to try and do a fashion or beauty photography shoot to focus on the natural beauty of the human form, I would like to focus on close ups of the face as well as beauty imperfections.
